The Bogey Men Bet Of The Week is a new segment we're running weekly as part of our podcast. Each week we'll place a €5 bet on the DP World Tour action. We'll be tracking our progress throughout the entire season and update weekly both on the podcast and here.
Week One saw Michael and Jonny analyse the Dubai Invitational at Dubai Creek Golf Club. Michael backed the young Dane Rasmus Hojgaard to win Each Way. Michael is confident that this will be a big year for Rasmus who will be fuelled by extra motivation by being part of the backroom staff for the Ryder Cup in Rome and watching his brother compete. Unfortunately Rasmus came up 2 shots short, letting Michael down.
Jonny backed the veteran Spaniard Pablo Larrazabel to finish T20. Reasoning for this was simple, Pablo has been openly documenting the speed work and Strength & Conditioning training he has been putting in over the winter break. Over the Christmas period Pablo lost 3-4kg and has increased his ball speed from 169mph to 177mph. Jonny's bet came good as Pablo finished T20 on the number.
This week is the first Rolex Series Event of the year on the DP World Tour, and it is week Two of our Bet Of The Week. After Rory effectively threw away last week's Dubai Invitational, Michael is confident that this week is going to be Rory's chance to win a 4th Dubai Desert Classic title. Michael has backed Rory Each Way to win and at the midway point in the tournament Rory sits at T24 and -3, ten shots off the leader Cameron Young, so it isn't looking great unless Rory does something incredible over the weekend.
Jonny is going for a somewhat safer play again this week. After a T10 finish last week, Jonny has backed Thorbjorn Olesen to finish in the top 10 again this week at 13/5. Last week at the Dubai Invitational, Olesen bogied his last 2 holes in a sloppy finish, but aside from that his game looks very tidy, specifically his approach play seems to have improved. Olesen has won twice in the last 2 years on the DP World Tour (2022 British Masters & 2023 Thailand Classic) and Jonny is confident that he'll claim another title this year and put himself firmly in the conversation to be on the Ryder Cup team in Bethpage next year.
This week is a big one for The Bogey Men for a number of reasons, namely on Sunday we will be live streaming on our youtube and all social channels for a live watch along for the final hour and a half of the tournament. We'll be commentating on the tournament, keeping track of our bets and we'll be joined live by guests and contributors who are on site at the tournament to give an extra insight. We'll also be giving away prizes for people commenting and sending us questions so make sure to tune in!
